                                                              Response to 400 Blows
I really enjoyed this film, I usually don't like films that use subtitles because I find it hard to follow along at times, but that wasn't the case. The movie is about a young boy who can't do better because he doesn't know better. His parents, mother especially are absent when it comes to his schooling at first. It wasn't until about halfway through our viewing that his mother actually sat down with him and showed real interest in how he was doing with his homework. Antoine was constantly getting in trouble, and I think it's because his parents weren't there to show him love and affection that he needed to feel like what he did mattered. The school and his home were the main literary element observations I made, which is where all of the conflict in his life was taking place. I also noticed that Antoine's apartment was extremely tiny, and it looked like the family didn't have perhaps a lot of money to work with, he slept out in the entry way. Some of his clothes also had holes in them, so I feel like this was the director's portrayal of what middle class families were like during this time. The camera looks down on characters a lot and uses a lot of close-ups as well.

Extreme Long shot from Gone With the Wind

I love this shot from one of my favorite movies, Gone With the Wind. If you know the story line, I think this shot portrays what Scarlett is feeling at this point in the movie. She is married to a man she isn't necessarily in love with, but later realizes he was the best thing for her. I think that in this shot, the vast open space showing all of the staircase as she is walking down reflects on how she is feeling alone and empty in her marriage, and in life.
